What shoes/dress should I wear?
Wear
comfortable, flat shoes as you will be standing for a minimum of an hour at
a time. Clothing should be comfortable and suitable to the weather, realizing that you may
generate a breeze with the segway. In cooler weather wear gloves to keep
your hands warm.
What if it rains?
We want
everyone to have fun, but if the weather is not cooperating we do have a
couple of options. If it is a light drizzle, we will continue
with the safari and issue riders with a free rain poncho. If heavy
thunderstorms and lightning is forecast we will contact you ahead of time to
discuss delaying,
rescheduling or even cancelling the safari.
What if I need to cancel/change my reservation?
As you can
appreciate we have limited spaces available on the Safaris, therefore
cancellations have to be made 24 hours in advance. Any cancellations
made between 24 and 2 hours prior to the scheduled Safari time will be
charged a 50% cancellation fee. No shows and cancellations within less
than 2 hours notice will be charged the full fee. Cancellations must be
made by calling 410 276 7347 and receiving a cancellation confirmation
email. Email requests for cancellations will not be accepted.
Reschedules will
be accepted up to 24 hours prior to the scheduled Safari time. Requests
for reschedules within 24 hours of the departure time will be subject to
a $10 per person rescheduling fee. Reschedule requests will not be
accommodated 2 hours before the tour start time.
Additions to
party numbers is subject to availability. Reduction of party numbers is
subject to our cancellation policies. No shows or non notification of
reduced party numbers will be charged the full fee. For changes
to your reservation please call us at 1 410 276 7347
What if I start the tour and do not continue?
Similar to a last minute cancellation, we only have
limited availability of Segways so if you elect to discontinue the
Safari once started for any reason you will be charged the full fee. If
you elect to not commence the tour after the training session you will
be refunded 75% of the tour fee.
What if I am late?
Partipants are required to
arrive 15 minutes prior to the tour start time, please be aware of and
plan for traffic congestion and other events and that may cause delays. Anyone that arrives after the
tour
start time may be prevented from joining the tour and will be rescheduled
on the next available tour. All such reschedules
will be subject to the rescheduling fee
plus any differences in tour prices.
Are
there restrictions?
Restrictions on Segway
use is controlled by City Codes and State Legislation. In the majority
of cases, States set limits for the minimum age of riders, require riders to ride
on the sidewalks, classify Segways as pedestrian vehicles and limit the
maximum speed for use on the sidewalks to 10mph. In DC the
National Parks Service, Secret Service and other Policing jurisdictions restrict
segway routes particularly on National Park
property. Please call for details.
Participants numbers: A minimum
of two participants is required to conduct a tour. Typical tour groups sizes
range from 8 to 10 persons per guide.
Other Considerations
Weight:
Segway recommends the maximum weight of
riders be restricted to 260lbs, as this will ensure the maximum battery usage. Some
folks maybe a little over this weight (5 - 10lbs) and this will not generally affect
the performance of the segway.
Age:
There is a minimum age of 16 in DC and 14 in MD- mandated by local
legislation. There is no maximum
age, but riders need to keep in mind that they will be standing the entire
time they are on the Safari.
General health:
Like
all outdoor activities, participants need to be aware of their own
limitations and weather conditions such as extreme heat. Please also
ensure that you are hydrated, have eaten and taken any necessary medicines
prior to your safari. Let your guide know if you have any medical
conditions that may impair your driving of the Segway. Unfortunately
riding a segway is not recommended for participants who are pregnant.
Why Segs in the City?
Segs
in the City is the first and most experienced
operator - we have been doing this for more than 13 years!.
Gratuities
Tipping tour guides is customary.
Guides
greatly appreciate gratuities as they
work hard and make every effort to ensure your comfort, inform you of points of
interest, instruct you on the best methods of using and handling
the Segway in your control, and to be at your service should you need
extra assistance - someone to snap a photo or additional information
about recommended restaurants and other attractions. If you
believe your guide has provided good service then please show
your appreciation.
